Infatuation (Rod Stewart)
Infatuation (Rod Stewart)
The film director:
Alfred Hitchcock (1899 - 1980)
Hitchcock was a highly influential film director who pioneered many techniques in the suspense and thriller genres. He produced many films in black and white such as Rebecca and Psycho as well as colour movies like The Birds.
When Hitchcock's film The Birds was first released in 1963, starring Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor, it met with mixed reviews. One critic said that the special effects were amusing, and a few were frightening, but she thought the storyline and the situations the characters encountered were unconvincing and the acting was so bad you could not take the characters seriously. However, another reviewer said The Birds was a classic and would be a delight for those who were brave enough to watch it. He said you should hold on to something while you watched! And a classic it has proved to be. Several generations have now been terrified by the attacks of the birds and have hung on desperatley to know how the film ends. Not many of its fans know though that the original book was based on something that really happened: birds in Cornwall were infected with a disease which made them attack people!
The clip for Rod Stewart's ''Infatuation'' is actually a four- minute homage to Alfred Hitchcock. It was shot both in black and white and in colour and it has two different endings in order to keep things interesting for MTV viewers. MTV is a 24-hour rock video channel which often broadcasts strings of clips which are repeated over and over again so both musicians and film directors try to find a way to keep up the interest of the MTV audience. "Infatuation" is a good example of this!
Hollywood movies portray a reality quite different from the one most people know. Here are some conventions that most Hollywood films follow:
* Durting a war, anyone who shows a picture of his loved ones to others will almost certainly get killed.
* The Eiffel tower is visible from any window of any building in Paris.
* Men can take enormous amounts of pain during a beating, but they will flinch each time a woman tends to their wounds.
* Police investigarions will involve at least one visit to a strip club.
* Foreigners actually prefer to speak to each other in English when they are alone.
* Women always wear lingerie when they go to investigate strange noises in a scary house.
Everybody knows that Alfred Hitchcock preferred blonde actresses like Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren. Stewart's weakness for blondes is also well-known... The girl who appears in Infatuation has... BROWN hair! (hhhmmm!)
Infatuation is defined as "a foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction". The idea is that it is also a "short-lived feeling"...
Have Y-O-U ever been INFATUATED???
